News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society

May 2011

The IEEE Awards Board invites you to nominate candidates for the 2012 IEEE Jack S. Kilby Signal Processing Medal. The IEEE Jack S. Kilby Signal Processing Medal, sponsored by Texas Instruments Inc., may be presented "for outstanding achievements in signal processing."

The SPS Awards Board is now accepting nominations for 2011 major SPS awards.

ICASSP 2011 will include new sessions in its technical program, namely Emerging Trends in Signal Processing. In a session, a Technical Committee of the Signal Processing Society features a number of experts that will highlight the most significant advances and upcoming trends within the TC area over the past year. The TC chair introduces the speakers and moderates the discussion--or initiates and stimulates it, as in a panel discussion.

The Membership Board is delighted to introduce the Seasonal Schools in Signal Processing (S3P) Program in the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS). This program was established in 2010 as an outcome of the SPS Long Range Planning Retreat held during ICIP 2010 in Hong Kong. S3P seasonal schools are typically either Summer schools or Winter schools, and are geared towards providing graduate students, early stage researchers, and practitioners with background on selected topics in signal processing.

The Steering Committee of the IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME) recently distributed a call for proposals to host ICME 2013 and ICME 2014, to be held in summer of both years. IEEE International Conference on Multimedia & Expo (ICME) has been the flagship multimedia conference sponsored by four IEEE societies since 2000.

The Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) will host a Proposers' Day Conference for the Finder Program on May 11, 2011, in anticipation of the release of a new solicitation in support of the program. Deadline for registration is May 4, 2011 5:00PM EST.

The TryComputing.org portal, to be launched in 2012 as part of an IEEE New Initiative, will provide resources to inform pre-university students about the vast array of opportunities available in the rapidly growing and evolving field of computing.

Held in Las Vegas each January, the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is the world’s largest consumer technology trade show.

This year’s event featured 2,700 exhibitors spanning 30 product categories and covering just about every type of home, small business, and vehicle gadget.
