Byung-Ho Cha (University of Southern California), “Design and analysis of collusion-resistant fingerprinting systems” (2009)

Byung-Ho Cha (University of Southern California): “Design and analysis of collusion-resistant fingerprinting systems,” 2009.  Advised by Prof. Kuo, C.-C. Jay .

The design and analysis of a collusion-resistant fingerprinting system for traitor tracing applications in a large-scale distribution scenario is proposed in this thesis. One key issue in the fingerprinting system design is its robustness against the collusion attacks. The main research in this thesis exactly follows that the task of identifying colluders and their weights can be formulated as a user detection and channel estimation problem in a multiuser wireless communication. Also, to preserve the tracing capability of media fingerprinting against various types of collusion attacks, the advanced detection and suitable media combining techniques are studied in this work. By exploiting the relationship between a multimedia fingerprinting and a multiuser wireless communication, this research is extended to various directions including development and evaluation of fingerprint codes and identification strategy, analysis of robust fingerprinting systems against time-varying collusion attacks, characterization of robust fingerprinting systems in continuous media, and design of quantized fingerprinting systems.
