The election of Members-at-Large (term 1 January 2011 through 31 December 2013) and the new Directors-at-Large (term 1 January 2011 through 31 December 2012) of the IEEE SPS Board of Governors is now open. This year's election offers SPS members the opportunity to cast their votes online. Ballots must be received at IEEE no later than 1 September 2010 in order to be counted.

The Steering Committee for the IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI) is inviting proposals for ISBI 2013, 2014 and 2015.

The Technical Committee on Information Forensics and Security (IFS-TC) of the IEEE Signal Processing Society is inviting proposals for the third offering of its flagship workshop (WIFS 2011). Full proposals must be sent by email no later than September 20th, 2010.

The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery is hosting a 49-week scientific program in 2012. The deadline for 5-day Workshop and Summer School proposals is September 27, 2010.

The Nominations and Appointments Subcommittee for each Technical Committee will be seeking nominations for new Members, as well as the Vice Chair position for some Technical Committees. Nominations for both positions should be submitted directly to each Technical Committee’s Nominations and Appointments Subcommittee.

The new IEEE Xplore self-paced training modules are designed to give you a quick overview of the most-requested training topics, including (a) Basic and Advanced Searching with IEEE Xplore and (b) Personalization in IEEE Xplore, including setting alerts.

The IEEE Technical Activities is looking into gathering interesting technology news from IEEE Societies/Technical Councils (S/C). The S/C and the chapters/TCs under them can gain recognition when the news is publicized in IEEE publications such as the Society Spotlights and Tech News portions of THE INSTITUTE.

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) are devices that process a user’s brain signals to allow direct communication and interaction with the environment. BCIs bypass the normal neuromuscular output pathways and rely on digital signal processing and machine learning to translate brain signals to action.
