If we had machines that could hear as humans do, we would expect them to be able to easily distinguish speech from music and background noises, to pull out the speech and music parts for special treatment, to know what direction sounds are coming from, to learn which noises are typical and which are noteworthy.

Hearing machines should be able to listen and react in real time, to take appropriate action on hearing noteworthy events, to participate in ongoing activities.

Face-to-face communication is a highly interactive process where participants mutually exchange and interpret verbal and nonverbal messages.

Communication dynamics represent the temporal relationship between these communicative messages. Even when only one person speaks at a time, other participants exchange information continuously among themselves and with the speaker through gesture, gaze, posture, and facial expressions.

Video-based human action detection has recently been demonstrated to be very useful in a wide range of applications including video surveillance, telemonitoring of patients and senior people, medical diagnosis and training, video content analysis and search, and intelligent human computer interaction.

As video camera sensors become less expensive, this approach is increasingly attractive since it is low cost and can be adapted to different video scenarios.

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) are devices that process a user’s brain signals to allow direct communication and interaction with the environment. BCIs bypass the normal neuromuscular output pathways and rely on digital signal processing and machine learning to translate brain signals to action.

To compare the efficiency of steganalysis methods, the first scientific challenge on this topic is being organized and inviting participation.
