News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society

Society News

In order to expose IEEE SPS to a larger community, SPS now has a Facebook page.

The election of Members-at-Large (term 1 January 2013 through 31 December 2015) and the Directors-at-Large for Regions 1-6 and Region 8 (term 1 January 2013 through 31 December 2014) of the IEEE SPS Board of Governors is now open. Ballots must be received at IEEE no later than 30 August 2012 in order to be counted.

Six IEEE Signal Processing Society Presidents (five past and one current)  got together at the recent meeting of the IEEE Board of Directors in Boston on Friday, 29 June 2012.

This below photograph is a memento of the gathering.

The IEEE Board of Directors has nominated IEEE Fellows J. Roberto Boisson de Marca and Tariq S. Durrani as candidates for 2013 IEEE President-Elect. The two men, chosen by the board in November, are set to face off in the annual election this year. The winner of the election will serve as 2014 IEEE President.

The SPS Awards Board is now accepting nominations for 2012 major SPS awards, including the Society Award, the Technical Achievement Award, the Education Award, the Meritorious Service Award, the Best Paper Award, Young Author Best Paper Award, Signal Processing Magazine Best Paper Award and Best Column Award.. Prospective nominators are encouraged to submit nominations well in advance of the deadline of 1 October 2012.

At its 31 March 2012 meeting, the Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society passed amendments to the Society’s Constitution document. Procedures require approval by the IEEE Technical Activities Board, which has already been secured, followed by a 30-day period for member comment. The amendment is considered approved unless one-half percent or more of the Society’s membership objects, in writing, within 30 days of publication. Publication here fulfills the latter portion of the approval requirement.

The Nominate a Senior Member Initiative was designed to encourage all IEEE Societies and Sections to become actively involved in promoting the Senior Member grade.

This initiative aims to:

* encourage grade advancement in IEEE;
* simplify the application process;
* offer financial incentives for approved Senior Member applications;
* offer increased benefits for Senior membership.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) invites nominations for the position of Director-Membership Services. The term for the Director position will be three years (1 January 2013-31 December 2015).
