The annual election ballots were sent to all eligible voting members via postal mail on 17 August. You can access and return your ballot electronically or use the postage-paid reply envelope included in your ballot package. Ballots must be received by 12 noon CST (17:00 UTC) on 1 October.

All candidates on this year’s ballot participated in a Q&A:

Are you a practicing engineer who would like to attend GlobalSIP 2015? Talk to your local Chapter Chair about how you can qualify for travel support to attend the conference in Orlando, Florida, USA this December!

The SPS Executive Committee recently approved an initiative that would provide limited Society support for SPS Chapters to send up to two members each to the IEEE Global Conference on Signal and Information Processing (GlobalSIP) from 14-16 December 2015.

SPS has changed its nominating process for all Society Awards from paper awards to the major society awards. We now call for nominations from any society individual member, society committee, or society board. Nominations from individual members can be supported by up to two endorsement letters from two other individual members. Full details on the nomination process are available on the Society website.

From 12-18 July 2015, SPS President-Elect Rabab Ward visited China to provide support and expand outreach efforts to our quickly-expanding Region 10 membership base. In particular, Dr.

Signal processing applications surround us and the technologies we interact with. And while signal processing is one of the most pervasive fields of engineering, it is also one of the least understood. In an effort to increase awareness about signal processing, SPS has been working on a series of videos to explain elemental signal processing technologies and applications.

Each year, IEEE recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions or exercised leadership within IEEE-designated technical areas. The Signal Processing Society is honored to announce five of its members as recipients of the 2016 IEEE Technical Field Awards:

IEEE James L. Flanagan Speech and Audio Processing Award

Presented to Takehiro Moriya “for contributions to speech and audio coding algorithms and standardization.”

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) is honored to announce the elevation of 19 of its members to the grade of IEEE Senior Member. These members have demonstrated outstanding professional performance, exhibited professional maturity through long-term experience, and established themselves as leaders in their respective IEEE-designated fields of interest. Senior Member is the only membership grade that is eligible to be nominated for IEEE Fellow. The new Senior Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society are:

The IEEE Awards Board seeks new volunteers to serve on its award selection committees and Awards Board standing committees to assist with managing the recipient nomination and selection process for IEEE Medals, Technical Field Awards, and Recognitions, the highest awards IEEE presents on behalf of the IEEE Board of Directors.
