Follow the links on the right side of this page to view more news around IEEE. This month's featured IEEE News source is IEEE Smart Grid Newsletter. The August edition of the IEEE Smart Grid Newsletter is live and covers micogrids in China, microgrid development on a small island, and the Penghu smart grid demonstration project.
As a special benefit to IEEE members for the month of August, IEEE-USA E-Books will offer “Shaping an Engineering Career – Book 3 - Volume 1: Advancing to Management.” In his review of career management, author Siri Varadan presents a useful and imaginative insight into how young engineers can begin to address career aspirations. Using his own career as a metaphor, he explores how career advancement is a function of opportunity, meeting preparation and readiness. The e-book is available 1 August to 15 September.
IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) is pleased to announce upcoming events, leadership summits, and opportunities:
The IEEE Maker Project competition has launched and will run through 17 September 2016. This year, Thomas Coughlin, IEEE Senior member and Chair of the IEEE Public Visibility Committee, will serve as the host of this competition and will be featured in an ongoing video series that will highlight cool projects and events on the contest website. If you’ve been tinkering with a tech project that solves complex problems and has application in the real world, here’s your chance to showcase your work.
Recharge your resume and gain in-demand skills this summer at IEEEx.org, IEEE’s Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) portal on the edX platform. Learn why smart grids are key to modernizing the current electrical system to optimize the conservation and delivery of power with the new free course, “Smart Grids: Electricity for the Future,” starting on 29 June. Check out “Enterprise Architecture and Essentials of The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF® 9.1),” starting 14 July, to discover how to improve IT infrastructure and business efficiency using architectural framework.
At its 18 June 2016 meeting, the IEEE Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) Board approved changing the geographic unit close/end date for prior year financial reporting to the last day of February. This change applies only to the financial reporting deadline. The geographic unit officer reporting and meeting reporting deadlines remain as 15 March, and the bonus deadline remains as the third Friday of February. The rebate algorithm and calculation remain unchanged. This information will be further communicated with all Sections over the next few months.
