IEEE Maker Project Competition: Deadline 17 September

The IEEE Maker Project competition has launched and will run through 17 September 2016. This year, Thomas Coughlin, IEEE Senior member and Chair of the IEEE Public Visibility Committee, will serve as the host of this competition and will be featured in an ongoing video series that will highlight cool projects and events on the contest website. If you’ve been tinkering with a tech project that solves complex problems and has application in the real world, here’s your chance to showcase your work.

MGA Financial Reporting Deadline Changed to Last Day of February

At its 18 June 2016 meeting, the IEEE Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) Board approved changing the geographic unit close/end date for prior year financial reporting to the last day of February. This change applies only to the financial reporting deadline. The geographic unit officer reporting and meeting reporting deadlines remain as 15 March, and the bonus deadline remains as the third Friday of February. The rebate algorithm and calculation remain unchanged. This information will be further communicated with all Sections over the next few months.

Call for Proposals: IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee Project Funding in 2016: Deadline 15 August

The IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee (HAC) is currently soliciting proposals for its 2016 funding opportunities. The IEEE HAC is tasked with supporting the IEEE Board-endorsed vision of IEEE volunteers around the world carrying out and/or supporting impactful humanitarian activities at the local level. HAC Events: HAC is currently soliciting proposals for the support of elements of events that are aligned with this vision.

Professorship for Virtual Reality

The Faculty of Engineering and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft invite applications for a

W1 Junior Professorship for Virtual Reality

at the Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Communication Engineering and International Audio Laboratories Erlangen to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of three years. Depending on successful evaluation the appointment will be extended for another three years.

The appointed professor will take on a leadership function at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS.

Why Have the Governing Bodies of So Many Societies/Councils and Geographical Sections Voted to Oppose the Proposed 2016 IEEE Constitutional Amendment?

Between 15 August and 3 October 2016, IEEE members will have the opportunity to vote on a fundamental change in the IEEE Constitution. It is very easy to ignore ballot initiatives, especially when there are not familiar names on the ballot. In this case, there is a very important element on the ballot, which you are urged to evaluate and vote upon.
