Big Data Special Interest Group

The purpose of the Big Data SIG is to promote within the Signal Processing Community awareness of (and interest in) problems related to large amounts of data (Big Data). Its initial goal will be to provide a forum for key SPS volunteers to propose activities that would lead to increase awareness, including for example special sessions at ICASSP, special issues in journals, a GlobalSIP symposium, ad hoc retreats, etc.

Call for New Members: Deadline 24 February 2017

The IEEE Big Data SIG is seeking nominations for new full members. All prospective members must be:

  • Current IEEE and Signal Processing Society members of good standing;
  • Willing to review papers within the area of Big Data submitted to Society conferences (e.g. ICASSP and Global SIP) or other SIG-organised events / conference sessions;
  • Willing to support and help develop the activities of the SIG.

Members can be self-nominated or recommended by an existing SIG member, but all prospective candidates need to confirm their willingness to be put forward, and submit a short IEEE-style biography to Russell Rodrigues ( ) by Friday 24th February 2017.

Existing full members will then vote on nominees and selection of new members will be confirmed by early March. Elected members will be appointed effective immediately, to serve until the end of December 2019 (pending renewal and development of the SIG into a full Technical Committee from January 2018).

We are very keen to expand our SIG’s activities, and develop into a full Technical Committee, and so encourage strong candidates to put themselves forward.
