As the standardization of 5G gradually solidifies, researchers are speculating what 6G will be. One common theme is that radio sensing functionality would be integrated into 6G networks in a low-cost and fast manner. 

The IEEE Signal Processing Society invites nominations for the SPS Challenges and Data Collections Chair position. The term for the position is two years (1 January 2023-31 December 2024).  Nominations must be received no later than 15 June 2022.

With this summer school, we aim at providing a comprehensive roadmap about fundamental theory, emerging applications, and possible enabling technologies for 6G. 

Practically anyone can now generate a realistic-looking deepfake video. Many methods to detect deepfakes were recently proposed by the research community. However, it is still unclear how realistic deepfake videos are for an average person and whether the algorithms are significantly better than humans at detecting them.

Prof. Rabab Ward's career includes many firsts, particularly for women in engineering and signal processing, paving the way in three continents and spanning over four decades.  This did not come easy as we discovered.  After many years of perseverance, Ward became the first woman with a Ph.D. to be appointed as professor of electrical engineering in Canada in 1981. 

Christ Richmond (Duke University) has been named Editor-in-Chief for the IEEE Signal Processing Letters for the term 1 January 2023 through 31 December 2025.

With the developments of cellular communication systems, the achieved transmission rate is gradually approaching to the Shannon limit.
