Kernel-Based Image Filtering: Fast Algorithms and Applications
Image filtering is a fundamental task in computer vision and image processing. Various linear and nonlinear filters are routinely used for enhancement, superresolution, sharpening, restoration, etc. The focus of this thesis is on kernel-based filtering that has received significant attention in recent years.
What Should We Learn? Biomedical Imaging and Analysis in the Age of Big Data and Deep Learning
Imaging of the human body using a number of different modalities has revolutionized the field of medicine over the past several decades and continues to grow at a rapid pace. More than ever, previously unknown information about biology and disease is being unveiled at a range of spatiotemporal scales. Although results and clinical adoption of strategies related to the computational and quantitative analysis of the images have lagged behind development of image acquisition approaches, there has been a noticeable increase of effort and interest in these areas in recent years.
Upcoming Webinar: "Enabling Identity-Based Integrity Auditing and Data Sharing With Sensitive Information Hiding for Secure Cloud Storage"
With cloud storage services, users can remotely store their data to the cloud and realize the data sharing with others. Remote data integrity auditing is proposed to guarantee the integrity of the data stored in the cloud. In some common cloud storage systems, such as the electronic health records system, the cloud file might contain some sensitive information that should not be exposed to others when the cloud file is shared.
Series to Highlight Women in Signal Processing: Dr. Athina Petropulu
In this issue, we interviewed Dr. Athina Petropulu, the President-Elect of the IEEE Signal Processing Society for 2020-2021. Athina Petropulu is a Distinguished Professor at the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department at Rutgers. Prior to joining Rutgers, she was faculty at Drexel University (1992-2010).
Releasing SLP Dataset: To Learn How We Have Been Sleeping
The positions we take in our sleep could reveal important factors related to our physical/mental well-being as well as affect the symptoms of conditions such as sleep apnea, bedsores, or even carpal tunnel syndrome. Moreover, patients are usually required to maintain specific poses after certain surgeries to get a better recovery result and during pregnancy, pregnant women are recommended to avoid certain sleeping postures that could cause harm to the fetus.
Interview with Distinguished Lecturer: Professor Gaurav Sharma
Gaurav Sharma is a professor in the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Biostatistics and Computational Biology, and a Distinguished Researcher in Center of Excellence in Data Science (CoE) at the Goergen Institute for Data Science at the University of Rochester.
Call for Nominations for Editor-in-Chief
The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) invites nominations for the position of Editor-in-Chief for the following journals: IEEE Signal Processing Magazine, IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, and IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing for a 3-year term starting 1 January 2021.
Get Involved with Technical Committees via the Affiliate TC Membership
The Signal Processing Society (SPS) has 13 Technical Committees and 2 Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that support a broad selection of signal processing-related activities defined by the scope of the Society.
37 SPS Members Elevated to Fellow
Each year, the IEEE Board of Directors confers the grade of Fellow on up to one-tenth of one percent of the voting members. To qualify for consideration, an individual must have been a Member, normally for five years or more, and a Senior Member at the time for nomination to Fellow.
