For five days in September, over 1,200 imaging experts from around the world gathered in Tampere, Finland, for the 2026 International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP 2026). Known as a global hub for innovation in digital imaging, Tampere was the perfect setting for imaging innovation. In addition to gaining knowledge, insight, and inspiration during 213 sessions, 389 hours of live content, and 18 multi-track stages, conference attendees were treated to authentic Finnish experiences such as art and sauna tours that doubled as informal opportunities for networking.

ICIP 2026 featured a rich and diverse program that reached well beyond traditional image processing. Computational imaging, compression and coding, vision-language models, multimodal AI, biomedical imaging, immersive media, remote sensing, and many other rapidly developing areas were presented by global leaders in image processing research. Highlighting outstanding innovation, top papers demonstrating exceptional maturity and/or novelty were spotlighted at the conference and were awarded expedited review cycles for expanded submissions to IEEE Transactions on Image Processing or IEEE Transactions on Computational Imaging.

Conference attendees were treated to plenaries from Ulugbek Kamilov of the University of Wisconsin, Rebecca Willett of the University of Chicago, and Stéphane Mallat from Collège de France. Industry executives from Netflix, NVIDIA, Axon, and Distance hosted lively keynotes and panels. With educational opportunities through tutorials, short courses, Expert-to-Non-expert (ETON) talks, Show & Tell demonstrations, and author workshops, ICIP 2026 embraced a broad vision of imaging.

To help engineering leaders, researchers, and industry practitioners quickly navigate the highlights and emerging market trends from the conference, we are excited to share the IEEE ICIP 2026 Industry Program Executive Summary, a comprehensive two-page recap prepared by the IEEE Signal Processing Society Industry Board. This concise executive summary ensures that your team will stay ahead of the latest developments in image processing.

Beyond the technical sessions, educational opportunities, and industry program, ICIP 2026 also featured a robust social component. Attendees enjoyed a welcome reception, conference gala, and ended the week with a farewell party to celebrate the end of an exciting week.

The momentum doesn't stop in Finland. Set your sights on Singapore for next year's event at the iconic Marina Bay Sands from 29 November – 4 December 2027! ICIP will take center stage as part of the inaugural IEEE Signal Processing Summit, alongside the Conference on Artificial Intelligence and the brand-new Applied Signal Processing and Learning Innovations track—which unites the Automatic Speech Recognition and Understanding Workshop and the Spoken Language Technology Workshop. Don't miss out on this historic gathering of visual, audio, and artificial intelligence innovation!
