How to be a Good Reviewer

Guiding principles of a good reviewer:

  1. Act with Integrity
    • Always act in IEEE's best interest.
    • Avoid conflicts of interest.
    • Maintain confidentiality and anonymity.
  2. Objective Evaluation
    • Provide fair, objective assessments.
    • Avoid reviewing papers where impartiality may be compromised.
    • Report any ethical issues to relevant chairs.
  3. Adhere to Deadlines
    • Ensure no personal conflicts with review dates before committing.
    • Notify Area or Technical Program Chairs if unable to meet deadlines.
  4. Provide Detailed Feedback
    • Complete all sections of the “Reviewer Evaluation Form” with specific comments.
    • Spend sufficient time on each review.
    • Ensure feedback is constructive, clear, and free from errors.
  5. Maintain Professionalism
    • Support authors respectfully.
    • Use third-person language for impartiality.
    • Avoid personal remarks and maintain a professional tone.
  6. Ethical Conduct
    • Respect confidentiality and the intellectual independence of authors.
    • Operate with trust, professionalism, and ethical adherence.
