The Signal Processing for Communications and Navigation (SPCOMNAV) research group at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB) seeks researchers to contribute to the activities on 5G and GNSS positioning in urban and vehicular environments (V2X), currently ongoing at the group. The researchers will benefit from the strong and intense links of SPCOMNAV with industry and European institutions, being involved in international research projects contributing to make a leap forward in the current state of the art.
The researchers are expected to contribute both with fundamental research results and with performance analyses on the use of 5G technologies for localization, either in a standalone manner or in cooperation with other positioning technologies such as GNSS (GPS, Galileo). For 5G-only localization, the researcher will participate in the design of positioning solutions based on technologies such as mmWave, massive MIMO and band aggregation. For combined 5G+GNSS positioning, the researcher will investigate specific methods to improve the security and accuracy of GNSS receivers, including methods for anti-spoofing and the interplay between 5G and GNSS through cloud-based signal processing.
The positions to be filled are seeking for candidates with a background in Electrical (Telecommunications) Engineering having preferably a Ph.D. in this field. Prospective candidates in related disciplines such as Electronics Engineering may be considered for this position, as well as candidates holding just a M.Sc. but with an outstanding academic record.
Candidates should have high grades in courses dealing with communication technologies and signal processing (estimation and detection theory), and proven experience in these fields. They must be proactive, enthusiastic and with strong self-motivation for conducting research and facing new challenges.
Fluent English both written and spoken is required.
Benefits
The minimum contract duration will be for 12 months, renewed based on the achievements of goals. The initial salary will range from 32,000€ to 36,000€/year depending on the experience of the candidate. Additional performance-based incentives can be negotiated with the candidate. Other benefits (vacations, etc.) will follow the Spanish regulations.
The researcher will receive funding to cover any number of journal publications and the attendance of two conferences per year (up to one non-European conference), and will also have the possibility of making patent applications if innovative techniques with industrial interest are developed.
The researcher will be part of the academic staff of the university and hence, s/he will be able to participate in academic activities (seminars, language courses, etc.). In particular, if it is of interest to the researcher, s/he will be able to supervise the final degree projects of B.Sc. and M.Sc. students and to teach a flexible number of hours in selected courses.
Renewal of the contract will take place based on the researcher's and the group's interests after the first year.
Candidates should send their full CV and a very concise statement of research interest and motivation to the email address jose.salcedo at uab.es with the subject "[ReseacherPos] Name of Applicant".
The selection will be carried out immediately as applications are being received. Each application will be evaluated based on its own merits, and the position will be offered to the candidates assessed satisfactorily as soon as they appear.
SPCOMNAV is one of the leading academic players in the field GNSS and 4G/5G positioning in Europe. UAB is the 1st Spanish university in research productivity and it stands within the top 10 universities in the world ranking of "50 under 50".
