As I take on the President of the Signal Processing Society (SPS) role, I am excited to connect with you through this column. I look forward to introducing myself and inviting you, the members, to join our volunteers in shaping our shared future.
A thank you note: I want to start by expressing my heartfelt gratitude to each of our dedicated volunteer leaders. First and foremost, I sincerely thank my predecessors for their exceptional leadership, boundless enthusiasm, and steadfast stewardship of the Society. Their service and dedication have driven our progress and helped us achieve our goals and aspirations. Your contributions are deeply appreciated and will be remembered.
I would also like to sincerely thank our dedicated volunteers, who have served and are currently serving on the Society’s Board of Governors, its Executive Committee, and all of its boards and committees. Your active participation, engaging contributions, and hard work make our Society our professional home. Instead of listing names, I look forward to the opportunity to acknowledge and thank our Society’s past and ongoing volunteer leadership in detail. I plan to use future columns to introduce the various Society boards and committees, discuss our volunteer contributions, and describe their future planned activities.
Finally, I want to express my gratitude and the Society’s deep appreciation to our front office staff. Your role in managing the day-to-day operations and assisting in better serving our members’ interests is invaluable. Look out for a future column that will highlight the work of our front office in supporting our members.
On a personal note: I have been a part of the IEEE and our Society since 1989, when I became a member as a newly graduated student. Over the years, I have contributed to the Society’s conferences and journals, served as a reviewer, been a part of a technical committee, served as editor-in-chief for the IEEE Signal Processing Letters, and taken on roles, such as technical program cochair for ICASSP 2013, and general cochair for GlobalSIP 2017, ICIP 2018, and ICASSP 2021. Additionally, I served as the inaugural SPS vice president for Membership, overseeing both the Membership and Educational Activities portfolios and being president-elect and chair of the Long-Range Planning Committee.
