IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership of the IEEE. It honors members with an outstanding record of technical achievements, contributing importantly to the advancement or application of engineering, science and technology, and bringing significant value to society. Anyone can be a nominator (no need to be an IEEE Fellow, or even an IEEE member). The nomination deadline is 1 March, and all required information is obtained from www.ieee.org/fellows.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society Italy Chapter has been selected as the third recipient of the 2013 Chapter of the Year Award! The Chapter of the Year Award will be presented for the third time at the ICASSP 2014 Awards Ceremony in Florence, Itlay. The award is presented annually to a Chapter that has provided their membership with the highest quality of programs, activities and services. The SPS Italy Chapter will receive a certificate and a check in the amount of $1,000 to support local chapter activities.

The IEEE Member and Geographic Activities (MGA) Board approved a motion that limits the number of years any one individual may serve in any one geographic unit officer position. This term limit policy is applicable to the following geographic units: Region, Section, Subsection, Geographic Council, Chapter, and Affinity Group. Section 9 of the IEEE MGA Operations Manual: Geographic Organizational Units - includes the new policy.

Nominations are due 31 January 2014 for the IEEE Technical Field Awards (TFA). IEEE TFAs are awarded for contributions or leadership in a specific field of interest of the IEEE and are among the highest awards presented on behalf of the IEEE Board of Directors.
All IEEE members are encouraged to submit a nomination for a worthy candidate within their technical fields.

The goal and overall intent of the SPS Chapter Certification Program is to diagnose and improve the state of Chapters within the Signal Processing Society to address the actual condition in interest, activity level, membership, rate of recruiting, and general activities of the Society Chapters.
