The aim of this paper is to present a new method for skin tumor segmentation in the 3D ultrasound images. We consider a variational formulation, the energy of which combines a diffuse interface phase field model (regularization term) and a log-likelihood computed using nonparametric estimates (data attachment term).

With the development of video coding technology, high-efficiency video coding (HEVC) has become a promising alternative, compared with the previous coding standards, for example, H.264. In general, H.264 to HEVC transcoding can be accomplished by fully H.264 decoding and fully HEVC encoding, which suffers from considerable time consumption on the brute-force search of the HEVC coding tree unit (CTU) partition for rate-distortion optimization (RDO).

The saliency detection technologies are very useful to analyze and extract important information from given multimedia data, and have already been extensively used in many multimedia applications. Past studies have revealed that utilizing the global cues is effective in saliency detection. Nevertheless, most of prior works mainly considered the single-scale segmentation when the global cues are employed. In this paper, we attempt to incorporate the multi-scale global cues for saliency detection problem.

Much effort has been devoted to recovering sparse signals from one-bit measurements in recent years. However, it is still quite challenging to recover signals with high fidelity, which is desired in practical one-bit compressive sensing (1-bit CS) applications. We introduce the notion of Schur-concavity in this paper and propose to construct signals by taking advantage of Schur-Concave functions , which are capable of enhancing sparsity.

The paper derives the stability bound of the initial mean-square deviation of an adaptive filtering algorithm based on minimizing the 2 L th moment of the estimation error, with L being an integer greater than 1. The analysis is done for a time-invariant plant with even input probability density function. Dependence of the stability bound on the algorithm step-size, type of the noise distribution, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and L is studied.

Sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) methods comprise one of the most successful approaches to approximate Bayesian filtering. However, SMC without a good proposal distribution can perform poorly, in particular in high dimensions. We propose nested sequential Monte Carlo, a methodology that generalizes the SMC framework by requiring only approximate, properly weighted, samples from the SMC proposal distribution, while still resulting in a correct SMC algorithm.

This letter proposes a new approach to nonnegative Tucker decomposition, which assumes recursive updates of latent factors with any nonnegative matrix factorization algorithm. The proposed strategy is extended to the nonnegatively constrained hierarchical Tucker decomposition model.

Zero-shot learning (ZSL) has enjoyed great popularity in recent years due to its ability to recognize novel objects, where semantic information is exploited to build up relations among different categories. Traditional ZSL approaches usually focus on learning more robust visual-semantic embeddings among seen classes and directly apply them to the unseen classes without considering whether they are suitable.
