Rabab Ward
President, IEEE Signal Processing Society

Are you a practicing engineer who would like to attend ICIP 2016, but the cost of travel is too great? Talk to your local Chapter Chair about how you can qualify for travel support to attend the conference in Phoenix, Arizona, USA this September!

The Signal Processing Society recently approved an initiative that would provide limited Society support for SPS Chapters to send up to two members each to the IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP [http://2016.ieeeicip.org]) from 25-28 September 2016.

IEEE Signal Processing Magazine (SPM) invites inputs from the global signal processing community on recent engineering design projects with significant relevance to signal and information processing.

The final rouSpectrogramnd of the 2016 Signal Processing Cup took part at ICASSP in Shanghai. This year's international undergraduate competition explored using a time-varying signature embedded in media recordings to determine the location-of-recording.

The SPS Awards Board is now accepting nominations for all Society level awards, from paper awards to the major society awards. Nominations are due by 1 September 2016.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) is honored to announce the elevation of 5 of its members to the grade of IEEE Senior Member. These members have demonstrated outstanding professional performance, exhibited professional maturity through long-term experience, and established themselves as leaders in their respective IEEE-designated fields of interest. Senior Member is the only membership grade that is eligible to be nominated for IEEE Fellow. The new Senior Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society are:

This year SP Cup competition was on “Exploring Power Signatures for Location Forensics of Media Recordings”, to determine the location-of-recording by exploring a time-varying signature embedded in media recordings. This year 52 teams (around 334 students) registered for the SP Cup and 33 submitted their work. Three teams have been selected to participate in the final competition at ICASSP 2016.

Nominations are due 1 July 2016 for the 2017 IEEE Medals and Recognitions.

IEEE Medals are the highest recognition within the IEEE awards hierarchy, with the prestigious IEEE Medal of Honor as the premier award. IEEE Medals embrace broad and significant contributions within the technical fields of interest of IEEE.

The Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) elected one new officer who will start his term on 1 January 2017:

In accordance with the Bylaws of the IEEE Signal Processing Society, the membership will elect, by direct ballot, THREE Members-at-Large to the Board of Governors (BoG) for three-year terms commencing 1 January 2017 and ending 31 December 2019, as well as ONE Regional Director-at-Large each for the corresponding regions: Regions 1-6 (USA) and Region 8 (Europe, Middle East, Africa) for two-year terms commencing 1 January 2017 and ending 31 December 2018.
