News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society

Society News

You may have received an email from Howard E. Michel, IEEE 2015 President and CEO, instructing you to vote FOR the IEEE Constitutional Amendment on this year’s member ballot. As you know, the Board of Governors of our Signal Processing Society has unanimously voted against the amendment. Actually, the governing bodies of the majority of IEEE societies are against it, including the largest ones such as Computer, Communications, and Power and Engineering.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) is honored to announce the elevation of 8 of its members to the grade of IEEE Senior Member. These members have demonstrated outstanding professional performance, exhibited professional maturity through long-term experience, and established themselves as leaders in their respective IEEE-designated fields of interest.

Watch the videos of Louis L. Scharf receiving the IEEE Jack S. Kilby Signal Processing Medal, Nadav Levanon receiving the IEEE Dennis J. Picard Medal for Radar Technologies and Applications and Simon S. Haykin receiving the IEEE James H. Mulligan, Jr. Education Medal.

IEEE has revised the tagline terminology used on all IEEE digital communications, promotional materials, websites, and mobile apps. Please review and update all existing applications using the new language shown below, including the footer and any other areas of the materials where it may be used.

Current: A not-for-profit organization, IEEE is the world's largest professional association for the advancement of technology.

The IEEE Board of Directors has approved the 2017 IEEE Technical Field Awards including the IEEE James L. Flanagan Speech and Audio Processing Award, the IEEE Fourier Award for Signal Processing, the IEEE Joseph F. Keithley Award in Instrumentation and Measurement, the IEEE Leon K. Kirchmayer Graduate Teaching Award and IEEE Donald O. Pederson Award in Solid-State Circuits.

Between 15 August and 3 October 2016, IEEE members will have the opportunity to vote on a fundamental change in the IEEE Constitution. It is very easy to ignore ballot initiatives, especially when there are not familiar names on the ballot. In this case, there is a very important element on the ballot, which you are urged to evaluate and vote upon.

Your vote is important! On 15 August 2016, the election of Regional Directors-at-Large for Regions 1-6 and Region 8 (term 1 January 2017 through 31 December 2018) and Members-at-Large (term 1 January 2017 through 31 December 2019) of the IEEE Signal Processing Society Board of Governors will open.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) is honored to announce the elevation of 22 of its members to the grade of IEEE Senior Member. These members have demonstrated outstanding professional performance, exhibited professional maturity through long-term experience, and established themselves as leaders in their respective IEEE-designated fields of interest.

The Awards Board Chair, Jose' Moura, is seeking nominations for the position of Chair of the Fellow Reference Committee. The term of appointment is three years (1 January 2017-31 December 2019). The position is responsible for chairing the Fellow Reference Committee, which is responsible for evaluating nominations for IEEE Fellow that are referred for review by the IEEE Fellow Committee. The Fellow Reference Chair is also a member of the SPS Awards Board. The Fellow Reference Chair must hold the grade of IEEE Fellow and must be an SPS Member in good standing.
