This issue brings to you our interview with Dr. Angshul Majumdar (M’2012, SM’2016), an associate professor at Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi, India. He has co-authored more than 80 journal articles and 100 conference proceedings. He has authored two books - Compressed Sensing for Magnetic Resonance Image Reconstruction, published by Cambridge University Press (2015), and Compressed Sensing for Engineers, published by CRC Press (2019). 

Dr. Namrata Vaswani is the Anderlik Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Iowa State University. She received a Ph.D. in 2004 from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Delhi) in India in 1999. Her research interests lie in data science, with a particular focus on statistical Machine Learning, Statistical Signal Processing, and Computer Vision.

This issue brings to you our interview with Dr. Ervin Sejdić, an Associate Professor at the Swanson School of Engineering, University of Pittsburgh, where he directs a research laboratory focused on engineering developments in medicine. His research has focused on creating computational biomarkers indicative of age- and disease-related changes in functional outcomes such as swallowing, gait, and handwriting. 

Vimal Bhatia is a Professor in the Discipline of Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Indore, India. He is also an associated faculty with Centre for Advanced Electronics and Discipline of Astronomy, Astrophysics, and Space Engineering at IIT Indore.

Dr. Mari Ostendorf is an Endowed Professor of System Design Methodologies at the University of Washington in the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department, currently serving as Associate Vice Provost for Research. She is also an Adjunct Professor in Linguistics and in the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science and Engineering.

This issue brings to you our interview with Dr. Hamid Palangi, a Senior Researcher at Microsoft Research Lab (AI) in Redmond, Washington. His current research interests are mainly in the areas of Natural Language Processing and Reasoning across Language and Vision.

Dr. Hema A. Murthy received the bachelor's degree from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India, in 1980, the master's degree from McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada, in 1986, and the Ph.D. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, Chennai, India, in 1992.

Venkat Padmanabhan is Deputy Managing Director at Microsoft Research India in Bengaluru. He was previously with Microsoft Research Redmond, USA for nearly 9 years. Venkat’s research interests are broadly in networked and mobile systems, and his work over the years has led to highly-cited papers and paper awards, technology transfers within Microsoft, and also industry impact.
