SPS Members Receive 2025 IEEE Technical Field Awards!

IEEE has announced the 2025 IEEE Technical Field Award recipients.  Four IEEE Signal Processing Society members have been recognized with an IEEE Technical Field Award:

  • The IEEE James L. Flanagan Speech and Audio Processing Award awarded for an outstanding contribution to the advancement of speech and/or audio signal processing, will be presented to Shrikanth Narayanan "for contributions to speech communication science and technologies for inclusive human-centered engineering."
  • The IEEE Fourier Award for Signal Processing​ awarded for an outstanding contribution to the advancement of signal processing, other than in the areas of speech and audio processing, will be presented to Björn Erik Otterstenfor contributions to array processing and its applications in wireless communications.”
  • The IEEE Innovation in Societal Infrastructure Award recognizes significant technological achievements and contributions to the establishment, development, and proliferation of innovative societal infrastructure systems through the application of information technology with an emphasis on distributed computing systems, was awarded to Wen Gao "for contributions to and leadership in high-performance AI computing infrastructure and efficient video encoding."
  • The IEEE Eric E. Sumner Award recognizes outstanding contributions to communications technology, was awarded to Thomas Louis Marzetta “for originating the Massive MIMO technology in wireless communications."
