From Autonomous Agents to Industry Impact: IEEE ICA 2026 Advances Deployable Agentic AI

The 2026 IEEE International Conference on Agentic AI (IEEE ICA 2026) will bring together researchers, engineers, and industry practitioners from around the world for four days of technical exchange on theories, methodologies, and applications of intelligent and autonomous agents. The conference will take place in Kumamoto, Japan, from December 14 through 17, 2026, with Kumamoto-Jo Hall serving as the conference venue.
Since its inaugural edition in Matsue, Japan (2016), IEEE ICA has brought together research communities working on intelligent agents and autonomous systems, with previous editions held in Beijing (2017), Singapore (2018), Jinan (2019), Kyoto (2021), Adelaide (2022), Kyoto (2023), Wollongong (2024), and Wuhan (2025). IEEE ICA 2026 continues this tradition with a sharper focus on Agentic AI. As AI systems increasingly operate with greater autonomy, real-world agency, and systemic impact, this edition places Agentic AI at the center of its scientific agenda. Agentic AI refers to AI systems and architectures that can represent knowledge, reason, plan, act, learn, and adapt within complex, dynamic, and open-ended environments. Such systems include LLM-based agents, autonomous workflows, multi-agent ecosystems, and human-AI collaborative systems. IEEE ICA 2026 invites the research community to contribute to and shape this emerging paradigm. The conference will be co-located with PRIMA 2026, the 27th International Conference on Principles and Practice of Multi-Agent Systems.
The technical program of IEEE ICA 2026 is organized around several core themes that reflect the evolving landscape of the field: foundations of Agentic AI, including agent architectures, foundation-model and LLM-based agents, reasoning, planning, memory and tool use; multi-agent systems and collective agency; human-agent interaction and mixed-initiative systems; evaluation, reliability and trustworthiness, covering benchmarking, verification, safety, alignment, privacy, security and regulatory compliance; infrastructure, platforms and deployment, including agent frameworks, orchestration, and embodied and cyber-physical agents; the social, economic and organizational dimensions of Agentic AI; and the philosophical, medical, and interdisciplinary perspectives on Agentic AI. Applications are welcome across healthcare, finance, smart cities, transportation and logistics, education, public services, software engineering, robotics, IoT, cyber-physical systems, and scientific discovery.
IEEE ICA 2026 is led by General Chairs Rafik Hadfi of Kyoto University and Shohei Kato of Nagoya Institute of Technology, with Program Chairs Tenda Okimoto of Kobe University and Nicolas Schwind of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, supported by an international organizing committee overseeing tutorials, publications, publicity, local arrangements, and finance. Papers are submitted through the submission portal, with abstracts due September 8, 2026, and full papers due September 15, 2026. Authors will be notified on October 15, 2026, and camera-ready papers are due on November 1, 2026, with all deadlines at 23:59 Anywhere on Earth (AoE).
