Recent Patents in Signal Processing (August 2012) - Media Fingerprinting

For the August 2012 edition, we focus on recent patents in multimedia fingerprinting. These are inventions primarily concerning the extraction of low-dimensional representations for identifying the content and ownership of videos and images and the devices producing them for use in copyright protection, digital rights management and traitor tracing.

US 8,204,314, "Method and system for fingerprinting digital video object based on multiresolution, multirate spatial and temporal signatures", by J. Lu and Y. Wang, filed 3 December 2007, issued 19 June 2012, assigned to Vobile, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) .

US 8,189,945, "Digital video content fingerprinting based on scale invariant interest region detection with an array of anisotropic filters", by M. Stojanic, P. Ramanathan, P. Wendt and J. Pereira, filed 5 November 2009, issued 29 May 2012, assigned to Zeitera, LLC (Mountain View, CA).

US 8,094,872, "Three-dimensional wavelet based video fingerprinting", by J. Yagnik, H. Rowley and S. Ioffe, filed 9 May 2007, issued 10 January 2012, assigned to Google Inc. (Mountain View, CA).

US 8,086,039, "Fine-grained visual document fingerprinting for accurate document comparison and retrieval", by D. Kletter, filed 5 February 2010, issued 27 December 2011, assigned to Palo Alto Research Center Incorporated (Palo Alto, CA).

US 8,150,096, "Video fingerprinting to identify video content", by A. Alattar, filed 23 MArch 2006, issued 3 April 2012, assigned to Digimarc Corporation (Beaverton, OR).

US 8,032,757, "Methods and apparatus for content fingerprinting for information leakage prevention", by Z. Zhao, G. Chen and K. Dong, filed 16 May 2008, issued 4 October 2011, assigned to Trend Micro Incorporated (Tokyo, JP).

US 8,023,757, "Fingerprinting digital video for rights management in networks", by R. Neogi, filed 17 November 2009, issued 20 September 2011, assigned to Intel Corporation (Santa Clara, CA).

US 8,176,568, "Tracing traitor coalitions and preventing piracy of digital content in a broadcast encryption system", H. Jin and J. Lotspiech, filed 30 December 2005, issued 8 May 2012, assigned to International Business Machines Corporation (Armonk, NY).

US 8,122,501, "Traitor detection for multilevel assignment", by H. Jin, J. Lotspiech and A. Varna, filed 20 June 2008, issued 21 February 2012, assigned to International Business Machines Corporation (Armonk, NY).
