Our SPS member and former President Dr. José M.F. Moura was newly elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) for his contributions to the theory and practice of statistical signal processing. José M. F. Moura is University Professor at Carnegie Mellon University, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and, by courtesy, a Professor of BioMedical Engineering.

Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. As announced by NAE President Charles M. Vest on 7 Feb. 2013, the National Academy of Engineering has elected 69 new members and 11 foreign associates. A list of the newly elected members and foreign associates follows, with their primary affiliations at the time of election and a brief statement of their principal engineering accomplishments, can be found at this website.
