Call for Leaders: Deputy Editors-in-Chief Positions Open at IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging
The Steering Committee for the IEEE Transactions of Medical Imaging, under the scope of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, the IEEE Signal Processing Society, the IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society and the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society, is undertaking a search for two deputy Editors-in-Chief. The Transactions publishes papers in all areas of biomedical imaging and publishes ~400 of over 4,000 submissions it receives each year and is among the most highly cited biomedical imaging journals, serving a diverse and truly worldwide community of scientists and engineers.
The position is a substantive, high-level commitment for a one-year renewable term. The appointment will start as early as 1 January 2026. At the time of appointment, the successful applicant must be a member in good standing of IEEE and at least one of the member societies. They must have served as an associate editor or in a management capacity for an archival journal.
Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate the editorial experience to raise the journal’s intellectual quality, and the management skills to be responsive to the evolving needs of the biomedical imaging community. These voluntary service roles are central to strengthening our editorial operations. Deputy EiCs will work closely with the EiC and TMI office to oversee manuscript flow. The responsibilities may include assigning submissions to Senior Area Editors and Associate Editors and helping ensure timely and consistent editorial decisions. Deputy EiCs may also contribute to broader aspects of TMI management, including AI4TMI effort, appeal handling, misconduct investigation, policy development, special-issue planning and oversight, and intervention in delayed peer-review cycles. The exact set of responsibilities will be refined as the journal evolves its current editorial workflow.
Desirable qualities include solid technical accomplishments, leadership, integrity and ethical standards, organizational and management skills, and eagerness to continue to move the journal forward to higher levels of accomplishment. A statement of institutional support is welcome.
Nominations and applications will be accepted until 20 December 2025 or until the positions are filled. Please submit all materials as a single PDF to wangg6@rpi.edu. An application package should include the following in PDF:
