Happy New Year from the IEEE Signal Processing Society Industry Board
As we begin a new year, I am pleased to extend a warm New Year’s greeting to our industry members and partners across the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS). The start of 2026 marks an exciting opportunity to reflect on the Industry Board’s first year of operation and look ahead to deeper engagement between industry and the signal processing community.
In 2025, SPS established the Industry Board to strengthen the Society’s connection with industry practitioners, leaders, and organizations worldwide. I am honored to serve as the inaugural Chair of the Industry Board and to work alongside dedicated volunteers who share a common goal: ensuring that SPS delivers meaningful value to industry while fostering impactful collaboration between industry and academia.
Over the past year, several foundational initiatives have been launched. We established a new Corporate Engagement Program to better align SPS activities with industry needs and to create clearer pathways for organizational participation. In collaboration with the Education Board, we helped shape short course topics that will appear under the IEEE Learning Network and worked towards the production of other high-value educational content that directly address real-world industry challenges. Working with the Membership Board, we promoted industry-oriented local events in San Jose and Shenzhen, and established a career center platform aimed at improving talent discovery and recruitment for industry affiliates. Finally, we launched this Industry Newsletter to provide timely updates, highlight opportunities, and amplify industry-relevant activities across the Society.
Looking ahead to 2026, the Industry Board will focus on scaling impact. Planned initiatives include making IEEE publications more accessible to industry audiences through AI-generated technical summaries, developing guidelines for industry tracks and programming at SPS flagship conferences, and working with the Technical Directions Board to publish a technical and industry trends report that captures emerging directions and practical implications for the signal processing ecosystem.
We are excited about the year ahead and welcome your engagement, feedback, and participation as we continue building a strong and vibrant industry presence within SPS. On behalf of the Industry Board, I wish you and your families a happy, healthy, and successful New Year.
Anthony Vetro
Chair, IEEE Signal Processing Society Industry Board
