Purpose and Mission

The IEEE Artificial Intelligence Coalition (AI Coalition) brings together IEEE Societies, Councils, and other Operating Units to strengthen IEEE’s leadership in the AI field. Its mission is to identify and build synergies across IEEE’s AI-related activities, foster AI education for IEEE members, and promote IEEE’s AI efforts both internally and externally. This mission is advanced through:

  • Aggregating and publicizing IEEE AI-related activities (e.g., ai.ieee.org)
  • Contributing technically to key products (e.g., IEEE Conference on AI - CAI)
  • Supporting the growth of AI-related periodicals (e.g., Transactions on AI)Hosting informational updates (virtual workshops/webinars).

The IEEE AI Coalition is guided by an administrative Leadership Committee comprising the organizations that fund Transactions on AI (TAI) and the IEEE Conference on AI (CAI):

  • IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS)
  • IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS)
  • IEEE Computer Society (CS)
  • IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society (SMC)

Events and Initiatives

IEEE AI Coalition organizes multiple conferences and webinars. Its flagship event is the IEEE Conference on Artificial Intelligence (CAI). This year’s edition will be held 8-10 May in Granada, Spain.

The educational program features both podcasts and webinars. In the recent podcast “AI and the Evolution of Materials Science Discovery,” host Daswin De Silva discusses the topic with Matthias Young and Jim Keller. An upcoming webinar, “Edge Compute and AI,” will be presented by Rohith Unnikrishnan, Technical Program Manager for Network Infrastructure at Meta.

The IEEE AI Coalition also includes several working groups and committees. A full list can be found here.
