Technical Committee News

It has taken more than a decade of intense technical and market developments for mobile Internet to take off as a mass phenomenon. And it has arrived with great intensity: an avalanche of mobile content and applications is now overrunning us.

The AASP Technical Committee had its annual TC meeting on Thursday, May 26, at Corinthia Hotel in Prague, Czech, where ICASSP2011 was held. We had a record high attendance and discussed subcommittee establishment, award nominations, job market page, and AASP challenges.

Since most members of IDSP-SC are selected from outstanding individuals in industry, its mission is mainly to promote emerging signal processing applications and industry technology and also to promote industry participation in the SPS and IEEE.

The Nominations and Appointments Subcommittee for each Technical Committee is currently seeking nominations for new Members, as well as the Vice Chair position for some Technical Committees.

Recognizing the increased relevance of, and research interest in this area, the Information Forensics and Security Technical Committee of the IEEE Signal Processing Society organized a special session on Secure Signal Processing at the recently held ICASSP 2011 at Prague on May 25, 2011.

This is an exciting time for signal processing education. We’ll review some of the recent progress and future trends in SP education through a range of different initiatives

Databeans, one of the market research organizations that follow the semiconductor industry, recently published its updated worldwide semiconductor revenue forecast for 2011.

Broken down into categories, it projects market growth for discrete, analog, logic, memory, microcontroller units (MCUs), microprocessor units MPUs, opto, sensors, and the smallest sector in the list—digital signal processors (DSPs).
