Call for Nominations: Challenges and Data Collections Chair

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) invites nominations for the position of the SPS Challenges and Data Collections Chair. The term for the position is two years (1 January 2023-31 December 2024).

The Challenges and Data Collections ​Committee Chai heads the Challenges and Data Collections Committee, which is responsible for running the Challenge Program and maintaining the documentation on the Program’s procedures; responsible for the successful operation of an on-going series of challenges; maintaining and developing contacts with the Technical Committees, Prospective Technical Committees​, and Megatrend Initiatives to support the Challenges; and providing proper communication channels and feedback to the Vice President-Technical Directions.

The objectives of the Challenges Program are: to encourage and support research with comparable and reproducible results in relevant, timely and impactful signal processing tasks; to identify, and to encourage the collection of, appropriate data-sets that embody those signal processing tasks and to support the sharing of such data-sets widely in the community; to identify appropriate performance metrics for the relevant tasks and, where appropriate, disseminate standardized tools for computing those metrics; to identify the state-of-the-art methods for such signal processing tasks and evaluate their performance comparatively on the identified data-sets and to disseminate the results of Challenges and subsequent scientific insights widely within the society and externally.

 

Nominations should be submitted to Theresa Argiropoulos at ​t.argiropoulos@ieee.org on behalf of Alle-Jan van der Veen, SPS Vice President-Technical Directions. When making your nomination, please provide the following information:

  • Name of candidate
  • Contact information
  • ​IEEE Member Number
  • IEEE Region
  • Brief biography including information about current SP, IEEE, or other Society, as well other volunteer activities (paragraph style, not bullets).
  • ​Brief narrative supporting statement from the nominator(s) - up to 500 words.

Nominations must be received no later than 15 June 2022.
