News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society
Applications are invited to apply for a post-doctoral researcher position, to work in the School of Informatics on an EC funded project entitled "Fish4Knowledge: Supporting humans in knowledge gathering and question answering w.r.t. marine and environmental monitoring through analysis of multiple video streams".
Informatics at Edinburgh is one of the top-ranked departments of Informatics in Europe. The consortium's project goal is to investigate: information abstraction and storage methods for reducing the massive amount of video data (from 10E+15 pixels to 10E+12 units of information), machine and human vocabularies for describing fish, recognizing fish and retrieving examples from a massive image database, flexible process architectures to process the data and scientific queries and effective specialized user query interfaces. A combination of computer vision, database storage, workflow and human computer interaction methods will be used to achieve this.
The main activities of the researchers at Edinburgh will be to investigate how to cluster, recognize and retrieve fish from the estimated 10E+10 observations over a 2 year period, and to lead project integration and evaluation. Check http://homepages.inf.ed.ac.uk/rbf/Fish4Knowledge/postdetails.htm for more details.
Applicants must have completed a PhD in an appropriate area, such as computer vision or image processing. The post requires good competence in the MATLAB and C/C++ programming languages. As the project is about image and video data analysis, we will be looking for applicants with experience in these areas. The post-doctoral position is on the Edinburgh UE07 scale (29853 – 35646 pounds/year). Placement for the post is according to experience and qualifications. The post is available from October 1, 2010 until September 30, 2013.
Further particulars are available from, and applications are sent to:
