Several SAM members and nominees received awards and honors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society that were ceremonially handed during the ICASSP'12 conference in Kyoto in late March. Börn Ottersten was decorated with the Signal Processing Society's Technical Achievement Award for his contributions in the field of array signal processing and wireless communications. The Best Paper Award was received by Stephen J. Wright, Robert D. Nowak, and Mário A. T. Figueiredo for their 2009 IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing paper entitled "Sparse Reconstruction by Separable Approximation". Raj Rao Nadakuditi was honored with the Young Author Best Paper Award for his paper "Sample Eigenvalue Based Detection of High-Dimensional Signals in White Noise Using Relatively Few Samples", co-authored with Alan Edelman that was published in the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing in July 2008. Furthermore, Hagit Messer was distinguished with the Signal Processing Magazine Best Column Award for her contribution entitled "Rainfall Monitoring Using Cellular Networks [In the Spotlight]" published in May 2007. This year's 7th IEEE Sensor Array and Multichannel Signal Processing Workshop (SAM 2012) will take place on campus of Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ, during June 17-20, 2012. The workshop's venue is situated directly across the Hudson River from Midtown Manhattan, with easy access to the New York City by public transport. The General Co-Chairs are Hongbin Li and Xiaodong Wang. The Technical Program Committee is co-chaired by Antonio de Maio, Rabinder Madan, and Peter Willet. The total number of paper submissions is 173 and 92 papers (excluding the invited contributions) are accepted for publication. SAM 2012 will feature plenary talks by leading researchers in the field as well as lecture/poster sessions, and eight special sessions organized by internationally recognized experts.
