Joint Transmit Beamforming for Multiuser MIMO Communications and MIMO Radar

Date: 15 May 2025
Time: 7:30 AM ET
Duration: Approximately 1 hour
Presenter: Dr. Tianyao Huang

This webinar is based on the IEEE Xplore® article under the same title published in the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, June 2020. The original article will be made publicly available for download on the day of the webinar for 48 hours: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/9124713

About this Topic:

Future wireless communication systems are expected to explore spectral bands typically used by radar systems, in order to overcome spectrum congestion of traditional communication bands. Since, in many applications, radar and communication share the same platform, spectrum sharing can be facilitated by joint design as a dual-function radar-communications system. In this webinar, the presenter will introduce a joint transmit beamforming model, which uses both communication signals and dedicated radar signals, for a dual-function multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) radar and multiuser MIMO communication transmitter. Particularly, he will discuss the design method, including optimization modelling and its solution, as well as the global optimality analysis. In addition, he also presents some new results on fundamental limits on such dual-function systems, addressing the inherit trade-off between radar and communication functions.
