Member Highlights: Dr. Haizhou Li

Dr. Li is a Singaporean scientist, and a Chinese Teochew native. He is now a Presidential Chair Professor at the School of Data Science, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, China. He did his Ph.D in digital signal processing of speech in 1990, and spent the past three decades to refine the technology.

Max Nikias Chair in Engineering at the University of Southern California, where he is Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Linguistics, Psychology, Neuroscience, Pediatrics, and Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, Director of the Ming Hsieh Institute and Research Director of the Information Sciences Institute.

Prof. Rabab Ward's career includes many firsts, particularly for women in engineering and signal processing, paving the way in three continents and spanning over four decades.  This did not come easy as we discovered.  After many years of perseverance, Ward became the first woman with a Ph.D. to be appointed as professor of electrical engineering in Canada in 1981.
