The IEEE Signal Processing Society invites nominations for the 2013 Class of SPS Distinguished Lecturers (DLs). The deadline for nominations is 1 June 2012. Each year, up to ten (10) technically diverse and geographically dispersed individuals serve as IEEE Signal Processing Society Distinguished Lecturers. Up to five (5) new individuals are appointed each year, and their formal term of appointment is two calendar years.

Nominations are due 1 July 2012 for the 2013 IEEE Medals and Recognitions.

Our SPS member Sadaoki Furui received the 63rd NHK (Nippon Hoso Kyokai: Japan Broadcasting Corporation) Broadcast Cultural Award .

The following SPS members will receive 2012 IEEE awards.

Clifford Carter has been selected as the IEEE Jack S. Kilby Signal Processing Medal recipient “for contributions to the fundamentals of coherence and time-delay estimation and to underwater acoustics signal processing.”
The IEEE James L. Flanagan Speech and Audio Processing Technical Field Award will be presented to James Baker (Carnegie Mellon University) and Janet Baker (Saras Institute) “for fundamental contributions to the theory and practice of automatic speech recognition.”

Please provide nominations for Regional Director-at-Large and Member-at-Large. Nominations must be received no later than 1 March 2012.

On behalf of the Awards Board and the Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS), John Treichler, SPS Vice President–Awards and Membership, would like to congratulate the following SPS members who will receive the Society’s prestigious 2011 awards during ICASSP 2012 in Kyoto, Japan.
