When did you first come into touch with signal processing? What was your motivation of following a career in this domain?
In 1984 I obtained my first degree which was a five years diploma in Electrical Engineering. My favorite courses were quite diverse, from Electromagnetism and Antenna Theory to Automatic Control, System Theory and Stochastic Processes.

The Signal Processing Society (SPS) has 12 Technical Committees and 3 Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that support a broad selection of signal processing-related activities defined by the scope of the Society. 

This past Star Wars Day (May the Fourth), fans had reason to celebrate. The new prequel, Solo: A Star Wars Story, was less than a week away from release, and more broadly, the entire franchise is undergoing a renaissance with new films more faithful in style and storyline to the beloved original trilogy. But beyond the actors and writers, Star Wars fans should be thanking the technology that makes such films possible: signal processing.

Technologies that at first seem like magic soon become so commonplace that we no longer even think about how amazing they are – or wonder how they operate. Our digital home assistants – Amazon’s Alexa, Google Home and their emerging rivals – have been with us long enough that we take for granted they can understand our unique voices, commands and questions, even with other noise occurring around them.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) invites nominations for the position of Awards Board Chair. The term for the Awards Board Chair position will be three years (1 January 2019-31 December 2021).

The SPS Chapter Certification Program has been reviewed and updated during ICASSP 2018. Certified Chapters will now receive expanded benefits during the 4-year period the certification is valid.
