The first edition of the International Conference on Emerging Signal Processing Applications (ESPA) will be held from January 12 to 14, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada. EPSA intends to serve practicing engineers and will have a strong emphasis on applications and cutting-edge practical signal processing.

The IEEE SPS Technical Committee on Multimedia Signal Processing is now inviting proposals to host the IEEE International Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing (MMSP) in 2013. MMSP is one of the premier workshops in the area of multimedia signal processing and addresses research in areas which will have significant impacts on the future. MMSP 2010 was held in Saint Malo, France and the main theme of the conference was immersive communication and virtual reality.

Beginning with our June 2011 edition, we are changing the format of the "Recent Patents" coverage. So far, we have simply listed patents issued in the previous 30 days from various signal processing areas. We believe that a much better way to cover recent patents is to highlight a particularly interesting area in signal processing, and provide a listing of the patents that have recently been issued in that area.

IEEE's Technology Time Machine (TTM), a forward looking symposia on technology trends and emerging areas of technology, is set for 1-3 June 2011 in Hong Kong. TTM is targeted at industry leaders, academics and decision making government officials who direct R&D activities, plan research programs or manage portfolios of research activities.
