Scope: The purpose of the Big Data SIG is to promote within the Signal Processing Community awareness of (and interest in) problems related to large amounts of data (Big Data). Its initial goal will be to provide a forum for key SPS volunteers to propose activities that would lead to increase awareness, including for example special sessions at ICASSP, special issues in journals, a GlobalSIP symposium, ad hoc retreats, etc.

The existence of gender imbalance in STEM fields continues to this day. UNESCO, in 2015, reported worldwide under-representation of women in STEM fields with only 30% women researchers in various fields. The key reasons of this disparity are lack of encouragement, guidance and resources.
