Interview with Venkat Padmanabhan, Deputy Managing Director, Microsoft Research India
Venkat Padmanabhan is Deputy Managing Director at Microsoft Research India in Bengaluru. He was previously with Microsoft Research Redmond, USA for nearly 9 years. Venkat’s research interests are broadly in networked and mobile systems, and his work over the years has led to highly-cited papers and paper awards, technology transfers within Microsoft, and also industry impact. Upcoming Webinar: "How the Mobile Phone Became a Camera"
The first camera phone was sold in 2000, when taking pictures with your phone was an oddity, and sharing pictures online was unheard-of. Today, barely twenty years later, the smartphone is more camera than phone. This transformation was enabled by advances in computational photography — the science and engineering of making great images from small form factor, mobile cameras.

Hear from the winners: 5-Minute Video Clip Contest at IEEE ICASSP 2020
The 5-Minute Video Clip Contest, called the 5-MICC, is an annual competition at IEEE ICASSP and ICIP conferences. The competition aims to encourage the signal processing community to explain concepts in an innovative way using a video. The participating teams must be composed of a supervisor, at most one graduate student and 3-5 undergraduate students.
