Given the prevalence and success of speech, audio, image, and video compression algorithms in consumer electronics, it is surprising that many high-speed digital signal processing (DSP) systems such as wireless infrastructure, radar processing, and medical imaging sensor subsystems have until recently not considered compression as an alternative for reducing data acquisition bandwidth and storage bottlenecks.

IEEE announced the launch of IEEE Xplore Mobile, which incorporates enhancements based on user feedback collected from a beta test period that began in June 2009. IEEE Xplore Mobile gives users the ability to conveniently perform searches of over two million technical documents with any mobile device connected to the Internet. To try IEEE Xplore Mobile, go to http://m.ieeexplore.ieee.org.

The July 2010 “Best of the Web” column of the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine introduces the social signal processing network (SSPNet), a large European collaboration aimed at establishing a research community in social signal processing (SSP),

As reported by CNN in October 2009, the declaration of the H1N1 (swine flu) pandemic as a national emergency in the United States high lights the magnitude and continuing spread of the first pandemic flu outbreak in 40 years. The May 2010 “IN THE SPOTLIGHT” column of the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine discussed how signal processing techniques can be used to analyze the information content of H1N1 genomic sequences.

Two new features that provide advanced customization and communication options have been added to myIEEE: myDesktop and memberNet messaging.

Images of the IEEE Master Brand + Tagline graphic are now available online in the IEEE Brand Identity Toolkit, under the Master Brand and logos section.  Use the IEEE Master Brand + Tagline graphic on materials when no other logo or logo with a tagline exists, as well as on all promotional items.  Use the IEEE Master Brand graphic (without tagline) for all other applications.
