Society News

The Hong Kong Chapter of IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) organized the 4th Signal Processing Postgraduate Forum on Saturday, April 24 2010 at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.  Every two years, the SPS Hong Kong Chapter organizes the Forum as an opportunity for the local signal processing research students to get together and discuss their research.

The IEEE Signal Processing Washington Chapter organized a "Signal Processing Night" on 19 April 2010 on the College Park campus of the University of Maryland. This event provided local IEEE Signal Processing Society members with an opportunity to showcase their research and to learn about the latest advancement made by researchers in the Washington metro area.

The nomination period for the Regional Director-at-Large positions has been extended until FRIDAY, 23 APRIL 2010.  In accordance with the Bylaws of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS), the membership will elect, by direct ballot, ONE Regional Director-at-Large for the corresponding regions

The IEEE Signal Processing Society appointed Alex Acero (Mircosoft Corporation) as Director-Industrial Relations and Shuvra S. Bhattacharyya (University of Maryland) as Director-Membership Services. Each Director’s appointment will run until 31 December 2012.

Thomas Kailath Thomas Kailath of Stanford University (Standford, CA) has been selected to receive the BBVA Frontiers of Knowledge Award in the category "Information and Communication Technologies".

The 2010 IEEE James L. Flanagan Speech and Audio Processing Award is being presented to Sadaoki Furui; the IEEE Control Systems Award is being presented to Graham Clifford Goodwin; and the IEEE Leon K. Kirchmayer Graduate Teaching Award is being presented to Alan N. Willson, Jr.

On behalf of the Awards Board and the Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS), Michael Zoltowski in his role as Vice President - Awards and Membership announced the winners of the 2009 SPS major awards. These SPS members will receive the prestigious awards during ICASSP 2010 in Dallas, Texas.
