News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society

Technical Committee News

July and August usually represent months of relaxation and vacations. These are the months that typically would not see too many exciting things going on in the signal processing community. Occasional cool papers here and there would be the only exciting things happening in July and August.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has led to widespread morbidity and mortality. Several countries have been forced into prolonged lockdowns in a desperate attempt to control the pandemic by physical distancing. Such lockdowns have devastated livelihoods and put large numbers of people at grave risk of prolonged unemployment, poverty, and even starvation.

The Nominations and Appointments Subcommittee for each Technical Committee is currently seeking nominations for new Members, as well as the Vice Chair position for some Technical Committees. Nominations for both positions should be submitted directly to each Technical Committee’s Nominations and Appointments Subcommittee. Please provide the name, contact information and biography with the nomination.

The ALASKA 2 Steganalysis Challenge is now open!  The goal of the competition is to push the community towards image steganalysis, “into the wild” facing two main challenges: 1) The very high heterogeneity of image "sources", with widely different type of content, processing operations, sensor noises, etc. and 2) Designing machine learning method for detection with low false positive, ideally that could be guaranteed.  The entry deadline is 13 July 2020 at 11:59 PM (UTC).

The Signal Processing Society (SPS) has 13 Technical Committees and 2 Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that support a broad selection of signal processing-related activities defined by the scope of the Society.

Virtual reality (VR) holds tremendous potential to advance our society. It is expected to make impact on quality of life, energy conservation, and the economy, and reach a $162B market by 2022.

The global COVID 19 pandemic has changed everything. Universities, research institutes, companies and other organizations will be operating differently from now, that is, their business models will change drastically. Even when everything goes back to normal, the “new normal” will not resemble our “old normal.”

The First TReNDS Neuroimaging Competition is LIVE! The competition features the largest normative dataset of its kind and will push the limits of current predictive technologies to help determine the translational value of the provided features for future clinical use. With enthusiasm, we announce the call for interest in the 1st Listener Acoustic Personalization Challenge (LAP 2024). The challenge acknowledges the diverse expertise within the signal processing community to facilitate cross-pollination of ideas and foster collaborative innovation in the audio domain, but not limited to.
