Signal Processing Society Members Receive 2010 IEEE Medals

The IEEE Edison Medal is being presented to Ray Dolby of Dolby Laboratories, Inc., San Francisco, CA.  IEEE selected Dr. Dolby to receive the award, "for leadership and pioneering applications in audio recording and playback equipment for both professional and consumer electronics."  The Edison Medal is given for a career of meritorious achievement in electrical science, electrical engineering or the electrical arts.

The IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal is being presented to John M. Cioffi of Stanford University, Stanford, CA.  IEEE selected Prof. Cioffo to receive the award, "for pioneering discrete multitone modem technology as the foundation of the global DSL industry."  The IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal is given for exceptional contributions to the advancement of communications sciences and engineering.

The IEEE Jack S. Kilby Signal Processing Medal is being presented to Ronald Schafer of Hewlett Packard, Palo Alto, CA.  IEEE selected Dr. Schafer to receive the award, "for leadership and pioneering contributions to the field of digital signal processing."  The IEEE Jack S. Kilby Signal Processing Medal is given for outstanding achievements in signal processing.

The IEEE Dennis J. Picard Medal for Radar Technologies and Applications is being presented to Alfonso Farina of SELEX-Sistemi Integrati, Rome, Italy.  IEEE selected Dr. Farina to receive the award, "for continuous, innovative, theoretical and practical contributions to radar systems and adaptive signal processing techniques."  The IEEE Dennis J. Picard Medal for Radar Technologies and Applications is given for outstanding accomplishments in advancing the fields of radar technologies and their applications.
