News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society

Society News

On 1 October 2019, we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of honoring members around the word for IEEE Day! Accordingly, we are planning many exciting activities and events for your members around IEEE Day 2019.

New and improved monthly statistics reports are now available containing enriched visual analytics dashboards that can be used for monthly trending. These comprehensive dashboards improve efficiency by allowing OUs to quickly access data that is relevant to them by OU, Region, Section, Grade, Division, etc.

Please visit the Conferences and Events page on the IEEE Signal Processing Society website for Upcoming Lectures by Distinguished Lecturers.

IEEE Signal Processing Society Past President Rabab K. Ward in her capacity as Chair of the Society’s Nominations and Appointments Committee invites nominations for the IEEE Signal Processing Society Officer positions of Vice President-Membership for the term 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2022 and the new position of Vice President-Education for the term 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2022.

When the IEEE Signal Processing Society was initially established as the Professional Group on Audio in 1948, signal processing as we know it didn’t exist. The founders of what would eventually become IEEE’s first society could not have foreseen the evolution of their discipline’s once-narrow scope.

At its 18 May 2019 meeting, the Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society passed amendments to the Society’s Constitution document regarding member election of the Society’s President-Elect, updating the reference to email voting instead of postal mail voting along with its associated timeframe and removing the 30-day waiting period, so amendments are effective after all required approvals are received.

The Executive Committee of the IEEE Signal Processing Society appointed a new Editor-in-Chief for IEEE Signal Processing Letters who will start her term on 1 January 2020.

IEEE SPS has built a streamlined mechanism for employers to add a job announcement by simply filling in a simple job opportunity submission Web form related to a particular TC field. To submit job announcements for a particular Technical Committee, the submission form can be found by visiting the page below and selecting a particular TC. Visit the SPS Job Submission Form.

As a reminder for continuing chapter chairs and for incoming chapter chairs for 2019, we would like to highlight a valuable resource available to you. Launched last year was IEEE OU Analytics, a web-based business intelligence tool to deliver essential metrics on memberships or subscriptions to OUs, including Societies, Councils, Technical Communities, etc.

Due to overwhelming interest in Member Driven Initiative funding, the IEEE Signal Processing Society has changed its process for submitting proposals through the program. This includes proposals for Forums, Regional Meetings, and Chapter Driven Initiatives.
