SPS Webinar: 7 June 2022, presented by Dr. Athina Petropulu, Dr. Christos Masouros, and Dr. Fan Liu
As the standardization of 5G gradually solidifies, researchers are speculating what 6G will be. One common theme is that radio sensing functionality would be integrated into 6G networks in a low-cost and fast manner.
Call for Nominations: Challenges and Data Collections Chair
The IEEE Signal Processing Society invites nominations for the SPS Challenges and Data Collections Chair position. The term for the position is two years (1 January 2023-31 December 2024). Nominations must be received no later than 15 June 2022.
SPS IFS TC Webinar: 29 June 2022, by Dr. Richard Heusdens
Privacy issues and communication costs are both major concerns in distributed optimization in networks. There is often a tradeoff between them because encryption methods used for privacy-preservation often introduce significant communication overhead.
Job Opportunities in Signal Processing
IEEE SPS has built a streamlined mechanism for employers to add a job announcement by simply filling in a simple job opportunity submission Web form related to a particular TC field. To submit job announcements for a particular Technical Committee, the submission form can be found by visiting the page below and selecting a particular TC.
Joint IEEE SPS and EURASIP Summer School on Defining 6G: Theory, Applications, and Enabling Technologies
With 5G being a reality, what will 6G be? Extensive discussions have been initiated around possible paradigm shifts and new technologies for 6G in recent years. With this summer school, we aim at providing a comprehensive roadmap about fundamental theory, emerging applications, and possible enabling technologies for 6G.
SPS IFS TC Webinar: 8 June 2022, by Pavel Korshunov
Practically anyone can now generate a realistic-looking deepfake video. Many methods to detect deepfakes were recently proposed by the research community. However, it is still unclear how realistic deepfake videos are for an average person and whether the algorithms are significantly better than humans at detecting them.
SPS Pioneers in IEEE History: Member Highlight: Prof. Rabab Ward
Prof. Rabab Ward's career includes many firsts, particularly for women in engineering and signal processing, paving the way in three continents and spanning over four decades. This did not come easy as we discovered. After many years of perseverance, Ward became the first woman with a Ph.D. to be appointed as professor of electrical engineering in Canada in 1981.
SPS Pioneers in IEEE History: Member Highlight: Prof. Christian Jutten
Prof. Christian Jutten received Ph.D. (1981) and Doctor es Sciences (1987) degrees from Grenoble Institute of Technology, France. He was Associate Professor (1982-1989), Professor (1989-2019), and in September 2019, became Professor Emeritus at University Grenoble Alpes.
SPS Webinar: 4 May 2022, presented by Dr. Christos Masouros, Dr. Fan Liu, Dr. J. Andrew Zhang
This webinar, part of the new IEEE JSTSP webinar series on recent special issues (Sis), will overview the Joint Communication and Radar Sensing (JCR) for Emerging Applications. The webinar will start with a brief motivation of the area of JCR, followed by a summary of the technical papers that appear in the SI.
Congratulations to the 2022 SPS Certified Chapters
