News from the South

Region 9 of the IEEE Signal Processing Society has seen a lot of new activity recently. Since late 2010, four new chapters have been created in Brazil (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Southern Brazil and Brasília). The chapter in Colombia is a few years older, and there are also chapters in Argentina, Guadalajara and Western Puerto Rico. This means that we can expect much action in the region: seminars, Distinguished Lecturer (DL) tours, conferences and other opportunities for learning and networking.

Colombia Chapter sponsors signal processing conference

Instituto Tecnológico de Metropolitano (ITM) and Universidad de Antioquia are organizing a conference in Medellin, Colombia: the XVII version of the digital signal processing, image processing and computer vision conference that will be held in September 12, 13 and 14, 2012. This event is sponsored by the IEEE Colombia’s chapter of Digital Signal Processing. The objective of the conference is to present technological advances and research results in the fields of theoretical, experimental, and applied digital, and image processing.

Society Constitution Amendments

At its 31 March 2012 meeting, the Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society passed amendments to the Society’s Constitution document. Procedures require approval by the IEEE Technical Activities Board, which has already been secured, followed by a 30-day period for member comment. The amendment is considered approved unless one-half percent or more of the Society’s membership objects, in writing, within 30 days of publication. Publication here fulfills the latter portion of the approval requirement.
