Held in Las Vegas each January, the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is the world’s largest consumer technology trade show. This year’s event featured 2,700 exhibitors spanning 30 product categories and covering just about every type of home, small business, and vehicle gadget. Not surprisingly, given its critical presence in a wide range of electronic technologies, digital signal processing plays a big role in many of the products showcased at CES.

Cloud computing is an emerging technology aimed at providing various computing and storage services over the Internet. However, Multimedia processing in a cloud imposes great challenges. In the May issue of IEEE Signal Processing Magazine, an article, entitled “Multimedia Could Computing”, introduces the principal concepts of multimedia cloud computing and presents a novel framework.
