Whether they know it or not, almost everyone in both the developed and developing worlds benefits from daily advances in signal processing. Our information age centers our activities around two key themes: ubiquitous connectivity and online social networking. And these themes are, in turn and not surprisingly, front and center themes in signal processing.

Upcoming Workshops
We have just a few weeks until the Fifth IEEE International Workshop on Computational Advances in Multi-Sensor Adaptive Processing (IEEE CAMSAP 2013), which will be held on December 15-18, in the French-Dutch Caribbean island of Saint Martin. Following the format of previous CAMSAPs the workshop will feature an impressive collection of plenary talks with contributions from Lang Tong, Alfred O. Hero III, Lieven De Lathauwer, Thomas Strohmer, Björn Ottersten and Mário A. T. Figueiredo.

Our modern life takes place in a world that is full of sounds, images and videos. You probably wake up by listening to some relaxing tone on your phone, listen to some music while you go running, and send a voice message to say happy birthday to a close relative. Then, you probably receive a notification to check the cool photos your friend has just sent you from yesterday's party and, while you’re checking the news, a trailer from a wonderful movie appears on your screen. It’s still early in the morning and you’ve already experienced the ubiquity of our multimedia world.
Have you had an experience in an MRI scanner? Chances are you have or know someone who has. Magnetic Resonance Imaging produces detailed pictures of soft tissue in the human body – but, unlike many other techniques, it does not require any radiation.
MMSP 2017 is the IEEE 19th International Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing. The workshop is organized by the Multimedia Signal Processing Technical Committee of the IEEE Signal Processing Society. The workshop will bring together researchers and developers working on multimedia signal processing to share their experience, exchange views, explore future research directions and network. This year’s event has a theme of ‘Multimedia Processing for Healthcare and Assisted Living’. However, other multimedia signal processing problems will be also solicited.
This edition of the workshop is organized by the University of Bedfordshire and will take place from October 16 to October 18. The workshop will be hosted in the Chequers style mansion house, Putteridge Bury
On behalf of the Fellow Reference Chair, the Vice President-Awards and Membership, Michael D. Zoltowski, is seeking nominations for four new members of the 2011 Fellow Reference Committee. Candidates must hold the grade of IEEE Fellow and must be an SPS Member. All nominations should be sent to Michael D.
The purpose of the IVMSP TC is to promote and guide the advancement of the field of image, video, and multidimensional signal processing. One of the TC’s most important responsibilities is overseeing the organization and the technical program, and serving as core reviewers, for the IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP). The technical program for ICIP 2009, which will be held in Cairo, Egypt, in November 2009, recently been finalized with the TCs active involvement. Interested SPS members may approach a current TC member to seek nomination to join the TC during this Fall's new member election.
