News and Resources for Members of the IEEE Signal Processing Society

January 2022

I was born in Zaragoza, Spain, in 1978. As a child, I enjoyed studying and learning new things. I loved Math and the way they can be used to explain almost everything, but I was not attracted to technology at all! I never envisioned myself as an Engineer, but rather thought I would study Medicine, or something related to taking care and healing people.

The Signal Processing Society (SPS) has 12 Technical Committees that support a broad selection of signal processing-related activities defined by the scope of the Society.

Each year, the IEEE Board of Directors confers the grade of Fellow on up to one-tenth of one percent of the voting members.  To qualify for consideration, an individual must have been a Member, normally for five years or more, and a Senior Member at the time for nomination to Fellow.  The grade of Fellow recognizes unusual distinction in IEEE’s designated fields.

Prof. Tiago H. Falk received the BSc degree from the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil, in 2002, and the MSc and PhD degrees from Queen’s University, Canada, in 2005 and 2008, respectively, all in electrical engineering. In 2007, he was a visiting Research Fellow at the Sound and Image Processing Lab, Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden, and in 2008 at the Quality and Usability Lab, Deutsche Telekom/TU Berlin, Germany.

Dr. Panos P. Markopoulos (Senior Member, IEEE) was born in Athens, Greece, in 1986. He received the Engineering Diploma degree (five-year program) in electronic and computer engineering, the M.S. degree in electronic and computer engineering, from the Technical University of Crete, Chania, Greece, in 2010 and 2012, respectively, and the Doctor of Philosophy degree in electrical engineering from The State University of New York at Buffalo, Buffalo, NY, USA, in 2015.
