Ajit Rajwade is an Associate Professor in the department of computer science and engineering at IIT Bombay, India. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree from the Government College of Engineering, Pune affiliated to the University of Pune (India) in 2001, his Master’s degree from McGill University (Canada) in 2005, and his PhD degree from the University of Florida (USA) in 2010, all in computer science. 

Imaging of the human body using a number of different modalities has revolutionized the field of medicine over the past several decades and continues to grow at a rapid pace. More than ever, previously unknown information about biology and disease is being unveiled at a range of spatiotemporal scales. Although results and clinical adoption of strategies related to the computational and quantitative analysis of the images have lagged behind development of image acquisition approaches, there has been a noticeable increase of effort and interest in these areas in recent years. 

The process of forming images from measured data using computational algorithms is referred to as computational imaging. Rapid advances in computational hardware and signal processing algorithms have resulted in a flurry of activity in computational imaging in several application areas, including medicine, biology, remote sensing, and seismic imaging.

The goal of the Hyderabad Chapter has been to bring together academicians, industry, and students with similar technical/research interests in the area of signal processing and communications.

Image filtering is a fundamental task in computer vision and image processing. Various linear and nonlinear filters are routinely used for enhancement, superresolution, sharpening, restoration, etc. The focus of this thesis is on kernel-based filtering that has received significant attention in recent years.

Matching images to a discrete camera is of significance in forensic investigation. In the case of digital images, forensic matching is possible through the use of sensor noise present within every image. There exist misconceptions, however, around how this noise reacts under variables such as temperature and the use of different lens systems.

Professor Roxana Saint-Nom received her Electrical Engineering degree in 1987 from ITBA (Buenos Aires Institute of Technology, a 6 years program), Argentina. She achieved an Advanced Studies degree (Suficiencia Investigadora, 2003) in Speech Processing from the “Universidad Politécnica de Madrid”, Spain.
