Activity Update from the BISP TC

Christopher Wyattby Christopher Wyatt (BISP Liaison to E-Newsletter)

The Bio Imaging and Signal Processing Technical Committee (BISP TC) of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (IEEE-SPS) promotes activities within the broad technical areas of biomedical and biological signal and image processing. Specific fields of interest include (but are not limited to): molecular and medical imaging, microscopy, signal processing in computational biology and biological networks, signal processing of physiological signals, and bioinformatics.

The BISP TC coordinates the review for biomedicine related tracks of the annual SPS flagship conference -- International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing (ICASSP). The next ICASSP will be held in Vancouver, Canada on May 26 - 31, 2013. See the conference website for submission deadlines and more information.

The BISP TC co-sponsors (with the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society) the annual International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI). This year, ISBI 2012, the ninth meeting in this series, was successfully held in Barcelona, Spain in May. The meeting featured outstanding plenary talks and several special sessions on topics of great current interest. Next year's ISBI 2013 will be held in San Francisco, CA USA on 7-11 April 2013 and will continue the tradition of fostering cross-fertilization among different imaging communities and contributing to an integrative approach to biomedical imaging across all scales of observation.

Beginning this year, the BISP TC is now also responsible for the biomedical track at the IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP). ICIP 2012 will be held on September 30 - October 3, 2012 at the Disney Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The next ICIP will be September 15-20, 2013 in Melbourne, Australia.

The BISP TC has also endorsed the 2nd International Workshop on Pattern Recognition in NeuroImaging (PRNI), which will be held in London this summer. The focus of this workshop is multivariate and predictive analysis of neuroimaging data. See the workshop website for more information.
